Starburst: interview with writer-producer Adrian Hodges

The June 2008 edition of Starburst includes an interview with new Survivors series’ writer and producer Adrian Hodges. The article introduces the following snippets of information:

  • The 90-minute pilot (penned by Hodges) will be helmed by Life on Mars director John Alexander
  • Hodges will write the first, second, fifth and sixth episodes; Gabby Chiappe (Lark Rise to Candleford) will pen episode three; and Simon Tyrell (The Firm) will script episode four
  • Hodges suggests that, by common consent, the first series of the original Survivors was the most popular
  • Hodges confirms that he would be keen to see a second series of the new Survivors commissioned, if the show proves successful. “It’s not a mini-series”, he reveals

BBC confirms key cast and crew for new series of Survivors

The BBC has revealed the key cast members and production personnel working on the new series of Survivors.

A BBC press release (issued on 30 May) also confirmed that work on the series is currently underway in Manchester and will continue until September 2008.

The cast will include (in alphabetical order): Freema Agyeman (Doctor Who; Torchwood) as Jenny; Nikki Amuka–Bird (No.1 Ladies’ Detective Agency; Five Days) as Samantha Willis; Max Beesley (Hotel Babylon) as Tom Price; Shaun Dingwall (Doctor Who) as David; Julie Graham (William And Mary; Bonekickers) as Abby Grant; Paterson Joseph (Jekyll; The Beach; Peep Show) as Greg; Phillip Rhys (24; Nip Tuck; Flatland) as Al; Zoe Tapper (Twenty Thousand Streets Under The Sky; The Last Van Helsing) as Anya and newcomer Chahak Patel as 11-year-old Najid.

The producer is Hugh Warren (Frankenstein; The Chase), directors are John Alexander (Life On Mars; Sense And Sensibility) and Andrew Gunn (Life on Mars). The executive producers are Susan Hogg (Lark Rise To Candleford; Waking The Dead) and Adrian Hodges.

The press release also provides brief descriptions of each of the show’s characters.
