Yes, I agree with the last post to a large extent. I love the original series but it would be daft to copy exactly for a 2008 version. Let’s keep our opinions open until we’ve at least seen the first episode!

What exactly do you mean by ‘very PC’? Its a script written for the 21st century, set in the 21st century, so its going to reflect the mix of cultures in that society isn’t it? Or would you rather it be just white middle class survivors, like the last series was? I’m a big fan of the 70’s series but it was a victim of its own era, just as this new version will probably be. I’m not saying they’ve got the casting right and I don’t think any of us can comment until we’ve seen it.

Having Greg played by a black actor is a bit of a surprise, but that’s probably just a reflection of my own stereotypes based on the original series. I don’t think that’s going to be an issue. There are however bound to be a lot of other problems with the series but don’t keep harping on about the ‘PC’ angle, there’s a good chap.

Total waste of time doing a remake. The 70’s version was of course a classic with very very good acting, good story lines and likable strong characters, this version is plastic with cardboard cutout trendy newbie actors who ain’t got a clue…

It will be a ratings flop, guaranteed

Blimey, that’s quite a slagging from the Newsnight Review team. Clawing her eyes out by the end of episode two eh? Harsh. Nice to hear that the Front Row people liked it though.
