The BBC's revival of the classic 1970s post-apocalyptic drama by Terry Nation

Day of the Triffids – new film adaptation in the works

Posted by Rich Cross on March 2, 2014

A new film adaptation of the classic 1951 John Wyndham post-apocalyptic novel of ‘carnivorous plants in a world-gone-blind’ may soon enter production. The Day of the Triffids has already been adapted for the small-screen twice by the BBC (in 1981 and 2009), and a 1962 big-screen adaptation was helmed by director Steve Sekely. In addition, there have been three separate BBC radio adaptations.

Media reports suggest that the new film version is to be directed by Mike Newell (Four Weddings And A Funeral, Donnie Brasco); with the script provided by Neil Cross (Luther, Doctor Who). It is reported that the film will be produced by Ghost House Pictures.

News of the putative new Day of the Triffids movie was carried on Deadline.com, Den of Geek, Total Film, MXDWN.com and elsewhere.
