The Last Ship

Following on from the cliff-hanger finale to the closing episode of series one, the ten-part series two of the viral-pandemic post-apocalyptic serial The Last Ship premiered in the UK on Sky 1 at 20:00 on 5 July.

As Captain Tom Chandler (Eric Dane, Grey’s Anatomy), Dr Rachel Scott (Rhona Mitra, Strike Back) and the crew of the US Navy Destroyer, Nathan James, attempt to distribute the cure to the virus that wiped out 80% of the world’s population, they face a new enemy in a group of naturally immune megalomaniacs who take umbrage with a cure that could dent their plans for world domination. Setting out to destroy the Nathan James and everyone onboard, Chandler, XO Mike Slattery (Adam Baldwin) and the team find themselves fighting for their lives, and the last fragile hope for humanity, when the bad guys fire a torpedo at them.

Z Nation

The SyFy network‘s new zombie post-apocalypse horror-thriller Z Nation will premier in the UK on the Pick channel at 22:00 on 21 July 2015. Although some critics have been harsh in their appraisal of the series, it has proved sufficiently popular to be renewed for a second 13-episode series, which will air in the US later in 2015.

Z Nation follows a group of citizens who are tasked with the critically important jog ob transporting the only known human to have been bitten and not succumb to a zombie plague across the United States in hope of finding a cure. The 13-episode, one-hour series stars Harold Perrineau (Lost, Oz) as Lieutenant Mark Hammond, a veteran Special Ops operative who, when the zombie apocalypse struck, was contemplating retirement; Tom Everett Scott (Southland, Beauty the Beast) as Sergeant Charles (Charlie) Garnett, a retired National Guard and high school history teacher; and DJ Qualls (Road Trip, Supernatural) as ‘Citizen Z’, a computer gamer and hacker whose online activities drew the attention of the National Security Agency.

The Strain

The second series of the vampire-virus edge-of-the-apocalypse drama The Strain, created by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan, premieres on the FX channel in the US on 12 July 2015. No UK transmission date has yet been confirmed.

Falling Skies

After premiering in the US on 28 June 2015, the fifth and final ten-episode series of alien-invasion post-apocalyptic drama Falling Skies began on the Fox channel in the UK two days later, and continues weekly at 21:00 on Tuesdays.

As the season opens, all breed of beast and mutant are running rampant on earth.

The Espheni’s power core has been destroyed, and humans are now ready to fight on their terms, even if it means resorting to hand-to-hand combat against the enemy.

After four years of being tortured, imprisoned and mutated and having their loved ones stolen from them, Tom and the 2nd Mass are filled with rage, ready to destroy the enemy in an all-out battle to determine the fate of Earth.

The Walking Dead

Filming on series six of the acclaimed zombie apocalypse serial The Walking Dead got underway last month, and studio AMC have released the first SPOILER-FREE behind-the-scenes promotional video from the set. Series six of The Walking Dead will be broadcast in the UK in the autumn of 2015 (shortly after the US premiere).
